NMEDA The National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association

FAQs

  • What sets NMEDA Dealers apart from other dealers?

    • NMEDA members are required to adhere to the safety standards of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and to follow the NMEDA Guidelines. NMEDA members update the Guidelines, a living document providing detailed recommended practices on equipment installation and modifications, yearly. Every NMEDA member agrees to follow these Guidelines when they join the association.

  • How do I know I'm selecting a qualified dealer?

    • Look for the NMEDA QAP symbol. The QAP designation is indicative of enhanced vehicle modification and adaptive equipment installation consistent with the highest industry standards. Dealers are required to follow guidelines written in accordance with motor vehicle safety standards, a professionally managed dynamic and static testing program and proven quality control practices that advocate the highest level of performance and safety. QAP Dealers are audited up to two times a year to ensure they are following the NMEDA Guidelines and adhering to our extrememly high standards.

  • What do I need to do if I am in a wheelchair and I want to drive?

    • First, consult with your nearest NMEDA Mobility Dealer to learn about available mobility equipment. You will also need to contact with a Driver Rehabilitation Specialist who will evaluate your individual needs and provide you with a prescription for mobility equipment. You may find a list of Driver Rehabilitation Specialists on the ADED web site. After the equipment is installed by your local dealer, you will also need to obtain training on the equipment.
  • Should I purchase a vehicle or equipment over the internet?
