The Veterans Administration will discuss recent or upcoming changes and regulations that affect the industry, forms and other procedures.

Associate Member Series (3 contact hours)
Driver Rehabilitation: A Team Concept

Debbie Newsom and Carol Blanc, OTR/L, CDRS

This presentation is offered to the intermediate toadvanced Driving Rehab Specialist. It will include several case studies of complex driving clients withhighly specialized needs for adapted driving equipment. The focus of the presentation will be on the problem solving sequence and the close collaboration between the CDRS, the vendor and the client. Areas to be discussed will include seating and positioning, clinical evaluation, customization of driving controls, unique considerations for each client and the appropriate sequence of the evaluation and training. The case studies will highlight the importance of taking the time for trials and/or simulation of adaptation and making prototypes of the equipment as necessary. Various types of equipment from low tech to high tech will be discussed. Special consideration for clients unique needs such as lap trays, oxygen tanks and service dogs will be reviewed.

FRIDAY

QAP Best Practices
Ron Mohr (Clock Conversions), Mike Murphy (Superior Van & Mobility) and Bill Siebert (Siebert Mobility)
Discussion will cover QAP best practices and the benefits of QAP. There will also be time dedicated to the audit procedures and current weight issues and the streamlining of the QAP process.

Proper Occupant Restraint Positioning
Linda van Roosmalen, PhD (University of Pittsburgh)
This workshop will cover best practices for occupant protection with a focus on those with disabilities (including those who stay seated in their wheel chairs). Discussion will include safety issues related to vehicle type, type and configuration of lap and shoulder belts, driver controls and airbags, the need for head/back support, type of seating system used, wheelchair armrest configuration and securement systems. A panel will discuss emerging concepts to improve occupant protection for front/rear impacts.

Tie-Down Panel
A Panel of Manufacturers, Mobility Equipment Dealers and a CDRS discuss securement of people and wheel-chairs in the vehicle. Discussion will include: the importance of being positioned and secured correctly in the wheelchair, the positioning and tie-down securement of the wheelchair according to FMVSS and information on crash tested 4 point restraints and power tie-down securements.
